At this year's SmallSat Europe Conference in Amsterdam, Mathias Scharpf presented his latest research on linearization techniques for Q-band power amplifiers, addressing one of the key challenges in future high-capacity satellite communication systems.
In addition, Mark Neff presented his latest research on the use of millimeter-wave frequencies to maximize data rates for satellites operating in Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) as part of the Collaborative Research Center ATLAS (CRC 1667).
The presented work investigates the challenges and opportunities of enabling high-data-rate communication links in VLEO environments. Particular attention is given to propagation effects, atmospheric attenuation, antenna gains, and system-level trade-offs that influence the performance of mmWave satellite links.
Together, these research activities contribute to the development of next-generation satellite communication systems capable of delivering higher data rates, improved spectral efficiency, and more resilient connectivity.
