Project GISALI-ACcESS

Institute of Robust Power Semiconductor Systems

Goals of the project GISALI-ACcESS (Advanced E-Band Satellite Link Studies), funded by the Federal Ministry of Economy and Energy (BMWi), are the investigation, implementation and validation of a high data rate wireless radio link in the frequency range 71-86 GHz, allocated for both terrestrial and satellite wireless communication.

Goals of the collaborative research projects »GISALI« (Gigabit satellite links in the millimetre-wave frequency range) and »GISALI-ACcESS« (Advanced E-Band Satellite Link Studies), both funded by the Federal Ministry of Economy and Energy (BMWi), are the investigation, implementation and validation of a high data rate wireless radio link in the  frequency range 71-86 GHz, allocated for both terrestrial and satellite wireless communication. Such a wireless communication link can find its application in both, the upgrade of fronthaul and backhaul networks for mobile communications, as well as in the field of earth observation satellites.

The results achieved in this research projects so far have set new standards in terms of transmitted data rate, in the follow-up project »GISALI-ACcESS« the achievable transmission distance will be increased.

In addition to the ILH, the research institutions Fraunhofer IAF and KIT as well as the industry partner Radiometer Physics GmbH are involved in this project. The project is managed by the Department of Satellite Communications at the Space Administration of the German Aerospace Center (DLR).
